Friberg's "1st Intercollegiate Game" is a beautiful
limited edition lithographic print with dark mahogany frame
with double matte (oak brown and brick red). Printed
title with description: "Princeton Vs Rutgers November
6, 1869". Also framed with a gold coin representing
a coin used to start the game. Coin engraved with the words,
"National Collegiate Athletic Association Founded 1906.

Friberg was commissioned in 1969 by Chevrolet, a division
of General Motors, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of
American intercollegiate football. For years, the same form
of football had been played on campuses and elsewhere. It
wasn't until 1869 that, for the first time, one college played
another in a game. Rutgers challenged Princeton in what was
to become the first game in the history of intercollegiate
football. Friberg has recreated this historic game that was
played on a clear autumn day in a cow pasture.
